Doctors reveal that eating avocados causes… see more

Participants who consumed meals containing avocado over 12 weeks showed improvements in certain measures of selective attention compared with a control group.

The study also observed an increase in blood lutein concentrations.

These results are interesting, but the research was limited in size and duration.

It does not establish that avocados prevent dementia, reverse memory problems, or substantially improve cognitive performance in the general population.

Brain Health Requires More Than Nutrition

Healthy aging of the brain involves many interacting factors.

Regular physical activity, sufficient sleep, blood pressure management, social engagement, and treatment of medical conditions can all be important.

Nutrition is one piece of that larger picture.

Including avocado in a diet that also contains leafy greens, fish where appropriate, whole grains, berries, legumes, and other nutritious foods may contribute to a healthier overall eating pattern.

The promising lesson is not that avocado makes the brain instantly sharper.

Rather, it may provide nutrients that support normal biological functions involved in long-term wellness.
