Doctors reveal that eating avocados causes… see more

The scientific evidence does not support such a simple conclusion.

In a large randomized clinical trial published in 2022, researchers studied more than 1,000 adults with elevated waist circumference.

One group was instructed to eat a large avocado every day for six months, while another continued its usual diet.

The study found no significant difference between the groups in changes to visceral fat, the fat located deep inside the abdomen.

Body weight also remained broadly similar between groups.

These findings demonstrate why it is important to distinguish nutritional benefits from exaggerated weight-loss claims.

Avocados can be incorporated into a weight-management plan, but they do not selectively burn abdominal fat.

Portion Size Still Matters

Because avocado contains substantial fat, its calories can accumulate quickly when large quantities are consumed.

A person who adds a whole avocado to multiple meals without adjusting anything else may increase overall calorie intake.

By contrast, replacing a high-calorie spread or portion of processed meat with avocado may improve the meal's nutritional quality without greatly increasing its calories.
