A Stranger Approached Me at the Bus Station With Food… See More

The stranger and I had little in common beyond being caught in the same difficult evening. We had different destinations and separate lives. We did not need to become close to recognize that the other person was having a hard time.

That recognition was enough.

If I could return to that evening, I would still be careful about my safety. I would still check the travel information, keep my belongings secure, and make sensible decisions about accepting food from someone I did not know. Gratitude should not require abandoning caution.

But I would also remember to look up from my own worries occasionally. I would remember that other people may be facing the same uncertainty, and that a small, respectful offer can sometimes make a difference.

The rain eventually became only one part of the story. The delays became background details. What remained was the memory of a stranger who noticed me when I was tired and hungry and chose to share what they had.
