A Stranger Approached Me at the Bus Station With Food… See More

That was another lesson I took from the encounter: emotional support and practical action can work together. A kind word may not solve a logistical problem, but it can make it easier to face that problem calmly.

As the conversation continued, the stranger mentioned how unpredictable travel could be. A person might leave home expecting to arrive at a particular hour, only to find that weather, mechanical problems, or other circumstances had changed everything.

We laughed briefly about how little control travelers sometimes have over their schedules.

It was not a particularly remarkable conversation. We were not discussing great philosophical questions or exchanging dramatic confessions. We were talking about the ordinary frustrations of being away from home.

But perhaps that was precisely why it felt comfortable.

There was no pressure to make the conversation important. We could talk for a few minutes, pause when an announcement came over the speakers, and return to the conversation when the noise settled.
