I had become so focused on what I could not control that I had stopped noticing anything else.
The stranger's offer did not change the weather or restore my phone battery. It did not guarantee that I would reach home safely that night. It did not even provide an answer about when the next bus would leave.
What it changed was the way I experienced the waiting.
For a short time, I was no longer simply a tired traveler sitting alone with a list of worries. I was someone another person had noticed. Someone had taken a moment out of their own difficult evening to offer a little help.
