A Stranger Approached Me at the Bus Station With Food… See More

Instead, they had paid attention.

That was the part I found myself returning to: not the food itself, but the decision to notice another person.

The stranger did not know how long I had been waiting. They did not know how far I had traveled or how worried I had become. They saw enough to ask whether I had eaten, and they offered what they could.

Perhaps they would never think much about the encounter again. For them, it may have been a small act during an inconvenient night.

For me, it became a reminder that people can still surprise one another in good ways.

The rain continued to beat against the windows, and the road outside remained obscured by mist. But the station no longer seemed quite so full of strangers.

For a little while, it felt like a place where people could recognize one another's difficulties and respond with something simple.
