“You don't need six pairs,” Emma said.
Sophie looked offended.
“I absolutely do.”
“For university?”
“What if I need options?”
Emma laughed.
“You sound exactly like Marta.”
Sophie grinned.
After several unsuccessful attempts, they finally managed to close the suitcase.
Emma helped carry it into the hallway.
Then they returned to Sophie's room.
For a moment, both stood quietly.
The walls still held photographs from school trips, birthday celebrations, and ordinary family moments.
Emma remembered helping Sophie decorate the room when she was little.
Now her daughter was preparing to leave it.
“Are you nervous?” Emma asked.
“A little.”
“That's normal.”
“Were you nervous when you started working?”
“Terrified.”
Sophie laughed.
“You never told me that.”
“There are a lot of things I was frightened of.”
“But you always looked so confident.”
Emma smiled.
“Sometimes confidence is simply doing something while you're afraid.”
Sophie considered that.
Then she walked toward the shelf where the family photographs were displayed.
